The Bowring Chronicles-Episode Eight: The Last Light
"Welcome back to The Bowring Chronicles, where the trees are innocent, the squirrels are judgemental, Billy's gone the bar, and every Wednesday proves that the best stories begin with...
"...Watch this."
Well...
We knew this day was coming.
Not because anyone wanted it to.
But because the evenings have started whispering that summer is over.
The shadows are a little longer.
The sunsets arrive a little earlier.
And somewhere between the last basket and the car park...
Bowring quietly tells us...
"See you next season."
🚨 BREAKING NEWS
Officials have confirmed that darkness has once again ignored repeated requests to "just give us one more hour."
Negotiations failed.
The clocks remain stubborn.
The sun has refused to comment.
🌳 Tree of the Year
After months of outstanding service to absolutely nobody except itself...
The award goes jointly to...
Every single tree at Bowring.
Their achievements include:
Catching discs they had absolutely no right to catch.
Standing suspiciously close to fairways.
Remaining completely innocent throughout every investigation.
When asked for a statement they simply rustled in the breeze.
Typical.
🐿️ Wildlife Watch
Barry was unusually quiet this week.
No judging.
No head shaking.
No sarcastic squirrel energy.
He simply sat high in his tree...
Watching another Wednesday unfold.
Even Barry knew.
😊 Bowring's Official Welcome Committee
Back in April...
Some people arrived not knowing a single person.
Today...
They're saying goodbye to friends.
Laura probably won't tell you this herself, but she's quietly introduced dozens of people to a sport they didn't even know they'd love.
That's quite a legacy for one summer.
📹 Kev's Camera Corner
Kev spent another evening behind the camera.
Capturing laughs.
Sunsets.
The impossible putts.
The terrible ones.
The little moments that disappear unless somebody remembers to record them.
And if the Mersey Masters is anything to go by...
We'll all be looking at next year's highlights wondering...
"How on earth did he make us look that good?"
📖 Dad's Final Word
Ruaraidh looked around the group before quietly saying...
"Same time next year?"
Billy smiled.
"Nice one, Dad."
Harley, naturally, couldn't resist.
"See you next season, Grandad."
Ruaraidh rolled his eyes...
...but smiled all the same.
🧠 Professor Harley Explains...
Today's lesson was unexpectedly simple.
"The best disc isn't always your favourite.
Your favourite is the one attached to your best memory."
For once...
Nobody had anything to add.
🕵️ The Bowring Intelligence Agency
Jo T somehow managed to wish everybody a good winter...
...while also discovering that one participant’s neighbour once worked with another participant’s uncle.
Some mysteries are simply too powerful to question.
❤️ Keeper of the Keys
As always...
David arrived first.
The baskets went out.
People laughed.
New friendships were strengthened.
Stories were made.
Then...
For the final time this season...
The baskets came back in.
Quietly.
One by one.
Most people will remember the drives.
The putts.
The birdies.
We'll remember the person who made every single Wednesday possible.
Cheers, mate.
📋 Keeper of the Chronicle
Someone has to remember.
The first timers.
The sunshine.
The ridiculous excuses.
The impossible tree kicks.
The Red Valkyrie disappearing over the horizon.
Barry's silent judgement.
Billy going the bar.
Because years from now...
The scores won't matter.
The stories will.
🍺 BREAKING NEWS
At precisely the end of the season...
Billy...
Went the bar.
There were no surprises.
Some traditions are simply too important to break.
❤️ The Real Trophy
There wasn't a prize for the longest drive.
Or the best putter.
Or the lowest score.
Not really.
The real trophy looked like this...
People who were strangers in April...
...hugging goodbye in September.
Promising...
"See you next year."
And meaning it.
📜 Bowring Wisdom #8
"Communities aren't built in clubhouses... they're built one Wednesday at a time."
One Last Thing...
When we started this season...
We thought we were building a disc golf club.
Turns out...
We built something much bigger.
We built a place where newcomers became regulars.
Where names became mates.
Where laughs became traditions.
Where "Watch this..." became both a warning and a promise.
We built a reason to look forward to Wednesdays.
And if we're really lucky...
We built something that lasts much longer than summer.
So...
To Laura...
Thank you for making every newcomer feel like they'd always belonged.
To Kev...
Thank you for making ordinary moments look unforgettable.
To Billy...
Thank you for proving that laughter travels further than any disc...
...although David's Red Valkyrie gave it a good go.
To Ruaraidh...
Thanks, Dad.
Sorry...
Grandad.
To Harley...
Thank you for reminding us there's always something new to learn.
To Jo T...
Thanks for somehow knowing everybody.
We're still not entirely sure how.
To Billie-Jo…
Thanks for your tales of nights out, always helping locate lost discs
To David...
Thank you for quietly turning up usually before everyone else...
...and leaving after everyone else...
Week after week.
Without fuss.
Without applause.
Just because that's what communities need.
To Jo K...
Thank you for making sure the little things were never forgotten.
Because little things become big things.
And finally...
To everyone who picked up a disc this summer...
Whether it was once...
Or every single Wednesday...
Thank you.
You've made Bowring feel like home.
We'll miss the sunsets.
We'll miss the tree kicks.
We'll even miss looking for discs in the rough.
(Alright... maybe not that bit.)
But mostly...
We'll miss each other.
So until the evenings grow longer again...
Keep smiling.
Keep throwing whenever you can.
Keep telling people about this brilliant little sport.
And if, on some cold Wednesday in the middle of winter, you find yourself thinking...
"I wish it was Bowring tonight..."
Just remember...
Spring always comes back.
And when it does...
David will already be there.
Laura will be welcoming someone new.
Kev will be filming.
Ruaraidh will be dispensing wisdom.
Harley will be explaining something fascinating.
Jo T will recognise somebody's cousin.
Billie-Jo will be ready for another night in The Mason’s
Billy...
...will eventually go the bar.
Barry will be waiting in his tree.
And somewhere, someone will grin, pick up a disc and say...
"Watch this."
We'll see you next season.

We keep stories."
